About MeHi, I'm Conor. I'm a twenty-something year old reader, runner, writer, academic, translator, photographer, adventurer, and some other things besides, depending on who you ask.
I hail from Jersey in the Channel Islands, but moved to Ireland when I was five. Since then I've spent time in Bilbao, Bordeaux, Paris, New York, and currently live in Vancouver, BC. English is my first language, but I speak fluent French, passable Spanish, and have a smattering of Irish, Swedish and Italian. This is my online shrine. Here you'll find various expressions of my personality and interests, from zany artistic projects to serious academic essays, from portrait photography to tales of my latest sporting and travelling adventures. I hope you'll find something that interests you. |
Recent ProjectsRight now I'm working on a translation of Léon Brunschvicg's collection of philosophical essays, De la connaissance de soi (1931), from French into English. The translation is due to be published by the Pertinent Press.
I recently wrapped up an M.Phil. in Literary Translation at Trinity College Dublin. For my thesis, I translated the same passage from Albert Camus' L'Étranger in five different and unconventional ways. I then wove these translations together to create a multi-layered literary text as well as an experimental audiovisual artwork, which you can check out here and here. Last year I set myself the challenge of racing ten marathons in six months to raise funds for the Rape Crisis Network Ireland. It took me to various places across Europe and Ireland, such as Paris, Stockholm, Galway and Dingle. I was delighted to run 2000+ kilometres and raise 2000+ euros for a worthy cause. |
